Some verbs change their stem vowel in 2nd and 3rd person singular: e → i (sprechen → du sprichst, er spricht), e → ie (sehen → du siehst, er sieht), a → ä (fahren → du fährst, er fährt). It's not a typo — it's part of the conjugation. Wir / ihr / sie forms stay regular.

A verb describes an action or state. In a German main clause the finite verb is always in position 2: «Ich heiße Lina», «Du gehst nach Hause». Verbs change by person (ich heiße / du heißt). The personless base form is called the infinitive (heißen, gehen, sein).

Conjugation is changing a verb by person and number. From the infinitive «heißen» Präsens gives six forms: ich heiße, du heißt, er/sie/es heißt, wir heißen, ihr heißt, sie/Sie heißen. The endings follow a pattern (-e, -st, -t, -en, -t, -en) — once you know the pattern, almost every regular verb falls into place.
